ELearning Update Letter from the Principal - New Daily Schedule

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

I hope everyone in your family, friends, and neighborhood are healthy and safe. We are starting to hear of more cases of COVID-19 in our county, state, and country. Unfortunately, much of the spread of the virus occurred before individuals were aware. We know of one person in the RBB community being diagnosed and I have heard there might be other individuals. I mention this to remind everyone that social isolation is the best way to keep from contracting the virus; I know this is difficult, especially for high school-age teenagers. I’ve spent the last few years discouraging students from spending too much time on social media. However, during this period of social isolation, I encourage you to make it your primary contact with your friends.

The staff was pleased with how well the first week of eLearning went not only for the students and staff. I participated in a few online class sessions and observed that both students and staff enjoyed the opportunity to meet and collaborate with one another. Some classes had less face-to-face time, but the teachers prepared assignments to help them continue through the curriculum. I have also received feedback from numerous students via email who indicated that Zoom and Google Hangout classes went well.

Now that we know the technology is working to allow teachers to have effective face-to-face meetings with students, we are going to make adjustments to the schedule and to the requirement to be online during each period. Beginning Tuesday, March 31, all teachers will be online each period and students should be prepared to be online for attendance at the beginning of every period, with the exception of homeroom, study hall, and office/library/teacher assistant periods. In addition, to help make this time more productive and to give teachers and students an opportunity to take a break from being locked into the computer for the entire day, we are also changing the eLearning class schedule. Beginning tomorrow, classes will meet on the hour for 30 minutes (longer for individual students that request additional teacher resource time in a period). The schedule will be as follows:

Period 1 8:00 - 8:30
Period 2 9:00 - 9:30
Period 3 10:00 - 10:30
Period 4 11:00 - 11:30
Lunch 11:30 - 12:00
Period 5 12:00 - 12:30
Period 6 1:00 - 1:30
Period 7 2:00 - 2:30

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns as we work together making this eLearning experience the best it can be. Email teachers for class issues. If you have other questions or issues, you can address them to me at dackerman@rbbschools.net. Technology issues can be sent to itsupport@rbbschools.net. Take care of yourselves and one another!

Sincerely,
DIrk Ackerman
