Meet the Principal

Principal - Mrs. Brenda Whitaker        noid1y11007

Indiana has not always been my home, but it is the place we chose to raise our children. My husband and I have two children, David and Tricia, who are now in college. Before they were born, I was a classroom teacher, teaching kindergarten, third, fourth and fifth grades. When my children started back to school, I returned to education and became their principal! After our move to Indiana I worked as a docent for the IU Art Musem and wrote educational research articles for a think-tank based in Bloomington. Soon I found myself back in education directing the GED program in Owen County then serving as assistant principal of Spencer Elementary School. In July 2007, I was invited, and happily accepted, the principalship of Edgewood Primary School.

I have lived in many places on this continent from Connecticut to California and from Florida to Canada, but Indiana is my favorite! Mid-western, home-town values are alive and well in this part of the country and especially in Ellettsville, Indiana! We are a community that works together, grapples with issues together and plays together. That is why we believe that together we can change lives forever!

Assistant - Jerry M. Pittsford             noid1y02017

Assistant Principal Jerry M. Pittsford is a native of Monroe County, IN, and he has spent most of his life here.  He has been with RBBCSC for 20 years.  Before joining the staff at Edgewood Junior High School, Mr. Pittsford taught English at Vincennes Lincoln High School in Vincennes, IN.  When he first came to RBBCSC as a teacher, he taught 7th and 8th grade English.  From his first teaching assignment to now, Mr. Pittsford has worked with students in grades 12-7 and K-2!  He has also coached middle and high school wrestling, middle school football, and high school baseball.  However, it should be noted that his first desire was to teach literature and composition, not be a coach.

Mr. Pittsford is a graduate of Edgewood High School, Indiana University, and Indiana Wesleyan University.  He received his Bachelors of Science in Education degree from IU in 1992.  In 1997 he completed his Master of Education degree through IWU.  After 14 years in education he returned to IWU for his Principal Licensure Certification.  Education has long been his passion as a professional, and he views continuous education and training as essentials for all who work with students in a modern, ever-changing world.

Over the years, like most teachers and administrators in the RBBCSC community, Mr. Pittsford has served on numerous committees and task forces.  Notably, he has chaired the AdvancEd District Continuous Improvement Committee on Data and was the chair of the RBBCSC Bullying Prevention and Awareness Task Force.  He is a certified School Safety Specialist through the Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy, which is an agency of the Indiana Department of Education.

When the day ends at EPS, Mr. Pittsford has a life full of family and community.  His wife, Cheryl, and he have two sons: Alex is a junior at EHS, and Harrison is a 7th grader at EJHS.  Both boys are three-sport athletes, so you are likely to see Mr. Pittsford out and about the whole year round.  When not attending sporting events and school programs with his sons, Mr. Pittsford enjoys fishing, reading, working in the yard, and tending to the wooded acreage he and Cheryl enjoy.  He also enjoys serving Monroe County as a member of the Board of Zoning Appeals.  After becoming Mrs. Whitaker’s assistant principal, he resigned from the Monroe County Plan Commission, ending 10 years of service there.

EPS is a place where we feel safe, care about each other and learn.
